Daycare Drama

All of you who have children know that diaper rashes/burns/blisters are most of the time unavoidable. Saturday night Adalee started crying like she was in pain. She has a couple of cries for pain but I knew that this one was a burning bottom. I immediately took her in to the bedroom and got her diaper off. All of her bum was red. I wiped her as good as I could and took her into the bathroom, filled the sink with cool water and made her sit in it. She screamed and cried the whole time but after realizing she got to run around naked for a while, was just fine. The next day, Sunday, I noticed a blister. I said "dangit" to myself and knew the damage was done. Made sure I powedered her up and we went on with our day.

On Monday evening I went to pick her up from daycare....this is how the conversation went between myself (S) and Adalee's teacher (T)....
T: Hey mom, did you notice Adalee's bottom?
S: The blister?
T: Oh is that what it is?
S: Yah she had some really acidic stuff on Saturday, I thought she was fine and that it was a really shallow burn. On Sunday I noticed the blister.
T: Oh well we were just looking at it (another teacher smirks and giggles) going "Is that a blister or a cigarette burn?"

I caulked my head in a manner that suggested "Did I understand what you just said." Then proceeded to chuckle a little, knowing the intelect of the women that work there and knowing where I stand on how I treat my kids. I told them that I dont even smoke (totally out of defense and having no bearing on whether or not I would still be capable of doing something like that). I tried to not let my irritation show or speak curtly to them.

The thoughts that ran through my head on the drive home were....
1. Surely there is a difference between a cigarette burn and a blister, not only in depth of the burn but pure appearance.

2. If there is a difference, these ladies had clearly not been educated on them, which had me
wondering what kind of education Childcare professionals are required to have on abuse.

So I looked it up as best I could and you know what I found.......

Adalee's blister matched...almost identical to a cigarette burn, like the one at the top of the post. After my experience last year with CPS (another story another time), this situation gives me some anxiety. What would stop the daycare from reporting, they by law are suposed to

Shannon Started It

So, I have been contemplating starting a blog for some time. I love to write. Sometimes it is therapy for me. Sometimes it is just a way for me to reflect on things. Sometimes I just love being able to vent. Sometime writing gives me a completely different perspective and helps me play better at the game of life. I have a past with rough edges that requires healing from time to time. I have huge successes and I have a heart full of compassion. Now I get to share all that with people that want to hear it. This is and will forever be a peek into who I am and what I have been through. I will always be honest, in return please never judge me. Ask me any questions, no matter how personal you think they will be. I will always answer. We can all learn from each other. Lets use our relatioships as a tool to make us better people.

I give all the credit to Shannon. I have read her blog off and on for over a year and routinely check it every moring. It goes with my cup of joe. She is an amazing mother and woman. Thank you Shannon.
